HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF) is looking to recruit an Apprentice Chef as part of our Business Development team in the TASTE kitchen at Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre.

The successful Apprentice will start immediately and support the Development Chef in planning menus and preparing locally sourced food and drink.

The Apprentice Chef will support the Development Chef and have the ability to work within a fast paced organisation and environment. We are looking for an energetic and flexible individual who is highly motivated with exceptionally high hygiene and food presentation standards; a genuine passion for regional food and drink and the culinary ability to create mouth watering recipes which showcase the best of local produce.

The primary responsibilities of the Apprentice Chef are

• To support the Development Chef in developing and promoting the TASTE kitchen facility to a range of stakeholders and consumers through a targeted marketing programme

• Assist at cookery demonstrations

• Cater for conferencing events and the general public visiting Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre

  Essential Desirable

Education

• 3 or more GCSE’s at grade A-C

• A recognised catering qualification

• Grade A-C in Maths and English GSCE

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery

• Competent IT skills

Experience • Working in a successful and profitable catering operation • Cookery demonstrations
Knowledge and Ability

• Willingness to learn

• Ability to work as a member of a team and use initiative

• An excellent understanding of how to manage waste
  Essential Desirable

Qualities and Attributes

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels

• A sense of humour

• Energy and flexibility

• Motivation – this post requires a self-starter, someone who shows initiative with the ability to lead others but is also comfortable working as part of a team

• Dedication and passion – for the job, HEFF, and regional food and drink

 

Salary
The starting rate is £2.60 per hour for the first month and then, at the Company’s discretion and based on performance, commitment and ability, the rate of pay will increase to £4.98 per hour.
