The Winning Sausages and Juices are Announced
The ONE BIG SIZZLE OFF lived up to its name with judges sampling and savouring over 80 different Breakfast and Speciality sausages at the AGA shop in Birmingham's Mailbox today. The 11th annual West Midlands Tastiest Sausage competition was organised by HEART of ENGLAND fine foods. To accompany the sausages, 25 different juices have been entered in the West Midlands Tastiest Juice competition which has two classes for Cox apple juices and Breakfast juices.
Amonst the judges were Tom Graham, who plays sausage producer Tom Archer on BBC Radio 4's The Archers and the BBC's Kay Alexander.
Tom announced that the winner of the title West Midlands Tastiest Breakfast Sausage was Packington Moor Farm Shop in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
The runner up was DT Waller of Ledbury, Herefordshire and DW Wall & Son of Ludlow, Shropshire, was Commended.
The Speciality Sausage category was won by Robinsons Butchers & Delicatessen of Tettenhall with their Pork and Caramelised Onion Sausage.
The runner up was the Smoked Gloucester Old Spot with herbs and leeks from Bradshaw Bros of Burntwood in Staffordshire and Chase Farm of Roughley, Sutton Coldfield, was Commended for their Pork, Beef and Cracked Pepper Sausage.
Also being judged alongside the sausages were the juices entered in the Tastiest Breakfast Juice competition.
In the Cox Variety competition, the winner came from Jus of Ledbury, Herefordshire, the runner up was from Teme Valley Fruit in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire and Clive's Fruit Farm of Upton on Severn in Worcestershire was Commended.
Clive's Fruit Farm fared better in the Breakfast Juice competition in which they claimed the top two spots with their Apple and Raspberry Juice in first place and also taking second place with their Conference Pear Juice (which can be purchased online via the new HEART of ENGLAND fine foods online shop). Two juices received Commended awards, the Discovery Juice from Whitehorn Farm in Herefordshire and Kits Kitchen's Naked Juice in Worcestershire.
